About The 3 To 30 Seconds Initiative
The 3 To 30 Seconds Initiative is a social-impact nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals develop the ability to pause and think before making decisions that may have long-term consequences. Founded by Eric Lowe, also known as Shabazz The OG, the Initiative is built on the belief that many life-altering outcomes are the result of impulsive decisions made in high-pressure moments.
At the core of our work is a simple yet transformative concept: taking 3 To 30 seconds to think before acting can change the trajectory of a person’s life for three to thirty years. By teaching individuals how to slow down their decision-making process, evaluate potential consequences, and consider alternative responses, we aim to promote accountability, reduce conflict, and improve overall life outcomes.
Through culturally relevant programming and strategic institutional partnerships, the 3 To 30 Seconds Initiative delivers decision-making frameworks and emotional regulation tools to students from early childhood through university, community-based youth and adult programs, workforce development initiatives, correctional facilities and reentry programs, and municipal anti-violence initiatives.
Our Initiative provides access to resources such as the 3 To 30 Critical Thinking Handbook, early childhood learning materials, the Walk Away or Walk the Yard Curriculum, and the SnapStrap emotional-intervention platform—each designed to help individuals make better decisions in moments that matter most.
By equipping individuals with the ability to Stop and Think for 3 To 30 Seconds, we strive to prevent violence, reduce impulsive behavior, and empower safer, more responsible communities. Because the decision you make in seconds can shape your future for years.
